Well, I haven't written much this past winter but we have slowly been gearing up for another season. Winter seems to keeping a firm grasp on the Hudson Valley as there is snow still on the ground.
I was able to prune the grapes, hardy kiwis, raspberries, apple and pear trees in a timely fashion this year. The other great news is that both of our bee hives have made it through the winter. There is now a local bee keeping supply company and I purchased a hive from them which I will install later this spring. Let us keep our fingers crossed and perhaps there might be some honey to taste here at the B&B!
I have been busy grinding corn into corn meal and have been rolling oats for the oatmeal pancakes. Soon I'll be asking Tom Hahn from Hahn Farms in Salt Point for some pork shoulder for sausage and pork belly for bacon. I use the apple and pear trimmings (after chipping) for the smoking portion of the bacon.
We sold our old and faithful Willys this winter. It has gone to a good home and we have replaced it with a slightly newer Jeep, a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. There is more room in it for the dogs!
Looking forward to see you here at the Willows under hopefully warmer conditions!
