This past Tuesday, April 22nd (Earth Day, ironically enough) we received an email from Trip Advisor telling us that we had been awarded a silver certificate in their "Green Leaders" award program.   We are proud to have been have been recognized for doing our part to help the environment.  We take pride in all of our practices which include:  Composting, recycling, using rain barrels, using free solar power  = clothes lines, and growing our own fruit and vegetables among other efforts. We are doing our part!

Well, Spring has finally decided to stay here in the Hudson Valley!  We have been busy getting ready for our upcoming season.  The snow plows are off the tractor and Jeep Grand Wagoneer, our rain barrels are re-installed, and things are starting to take shape in the garden.  I've planted some beets, carrots, cabbage, and various lettuces.  I'm hoping by next week to plant onion sets and get some seed potatoes started.  All three of our bee hives are going great guns so we are expecting some honey this year!

  Here I am last week reading a book entitled "The Bee Man" to a local classroom of second graders.  I was asked to volunteer my time by Jennifer Fimbel of our local Cornell Cooperative Extension for "National Agriculture Literacy Week" and I gladly obliged.  I had the most wonderful time doing this and I feel the children enjoyed it as well.  They certainly had a lot of questions for me; good ones at that!
